Individual therapy
for relationship concerns

Some difficulties become clearest in our relationships. You may keep having the same argument, hold back what you need, or pull away just when you want to feel closer. Sometimes you know a pattern well and still find yourself in it again.

You can work on these concerns in individual therapy. Your partner does not need to attend, and you do not need to be in a relationship to begin.

Understanding your part without taking all the blame

We can explore how you respond to conflict, closeness and uncertainty. That may include looking at what you learned to expect from other people and how those expectations affect your relationships now.

Understanding your part is not the same as making everything your responsibility. There is room to consider another person’s behavior, the circumstances you are in and the boundaries you need.

What the work can look like

You might bring in a recent conversation that stayed with you. We can slow it down, notice what you felt and explore what you wanted to say but could not. Over time, we look for ways to communicate more honestly and make choices with a clearer sense of what matters to you.

The work can involve dating, a long-term partnership, a separation, friendships or family relationships. I will not assume that staying, leaving or reconciling is the right outcome. We work toward a clearer understanding of your own experience and options.

Individual or couples therapy?

Individual therapy gives you space to focus on your experience and choices. Couples therapy brings both partners into the conversation to work on the relationship together. If you are unsure which makes sense, we can discuss that during a consultation.

Starting therapy

Individual sessions are $250 for 50 minutes or $325 for 80 minutes, online for clients in California.

A consultation is a chance to talk about what brings you in and see whether working together feels like a fit.
